Founded by Geldof and Midge Ure, Live Aid became one of the most successful multi-venue concerts in history. 72,000 attendees rocked London's Wembley Stadium, 89,000 more at John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia and roughly 1.9 billion viewers overall watched around the globe. Perhaps the most impressive stat, however: the show raised $140 million for famine relief in Ethiopia.

Such a seismic event produced some earth-shaking photos. From Freddie Mercury's iconic performance with Queen to Paul McCartney taking the stage, here is the story of 1985's Live Aid Concerts, as told in 20 pictures.
